This year I was invited to speak at Mindshare's poetry competition launch during mental health week. Here I met Bob, a very talented guy who writes poetry. I assure you that this poem will move you, as it gives you an insight into how someone who is in the early days of Alzheimer's, may feel.
An Empty Easel
Alzheimer’s paints anesthetised visions
Of yesterday’s reminiscences.
Life’s colours flow brightly,
Diminishing into a swirl
Of blurred mind-images.
My remaining memories scare me,
I know they are soon to leave
Just an empty easel
Void of life’s paintings.
Just remember that I loved you dearly
When my canvas is bare.
Of yesterday’s reminiscences.
Life’s colours flow brightly,
Diminishing into a swirl
Of blurred mind-images.
My remaining memories scare me,
I know they are soon to leave
Just an empty easel
Void of life’s paintings.
Just remember that I loved you dearly
When my canvas is bare.
Written beautifully by Bob Jarrad.
