Unspoken Conversations are the topics that are often swept under the carpet, whispered amongst the closest of friends and bitched about by many. I want to create awareness about difficult things that people face in life; grief, mental health, money, illnesses, family troubles, relationship difficulties and putting yourself first. I want to tell the truth about things that really matter.

Why it's important not to QUIT!

This photo makes me smile so much. Mick and I have been through so many difficult challenges in the past year. It's lovely to be silly, have some fun and jump for joy. I'm glad we didn't give up when things got tough because now we're both happier then ever!

This landed on my desk the other day at work. It had been found in a purse that had been stolen and chucked up in to the roof of the university. It was found by construction workers.

It came at the right time.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit!

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When you might have won had you stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
That you must not quit.

Last year when things got tough with my Depression I wanted to quit. Sometimes at work when I get frustrated with the politics and some poor decisions, I want to quit. When my partner and I are exhausted and fighting over renovations, I want to quit.

But I don't. Because I know that quitting means giving up. And giving up is not an option for me.

It is often the most difficult battles that you face, that you gain strength from and form closer relationships with the people in your life.

The cute little pocket sized poem that I have on my desk to remind me not to QUIT when things get tough!

Don't quit.

Just around the corner could be success.

Have you felt like quitting lately? What has made you want to quit? Do you have a success story when you have wanted to quit, but held on and then positive things happened?

Look after yourself and those around you,

Kirsty xxxx

In true Elise-style, this is may not make sense to anyone else.. but here's by attempt to explain an "I want to quit" episode from yesterday. I finally decided to stop procrastinating about my CV and job-hunting and instead start the process when, all of a sudden, a plague of standards about how I should market myself and "what I should be" came crashing down. uUnder the pressure I felt like quitting. At the time I wasnt aware that it was these unreachable expectations I was putting on myself that were causing my little breakdown, but looking back thats what it was. Then, to make it worse, I started beating myself up for getting upset about "such a small thing as job-hunting"!

Today, I realised something when thinking of a friend's struggle with depression that really helped me accept where I was at. I realised that the strength a person exercises every minute that they live in emotional turmoil is evidence to the HUGE amount of strength they posess, rather than evidence of some inherent weakness. I found this very helpful, because it overcomes that feeling of failure for just being upset with a situation, which can often cause me to want to quit for being "not capable". But by recognising that I am exercising great strength by doing what I can given the struggle im it at the same time, it helped me to recognise the strength I have to take the next step, rather than quit. :)

Job applications...ergh! it's so hard being able to sell yourself. Just go for it. What's the worse that can happen? Rejection...you just.move on to the next one because that one probably wasn't right for you. Sometimes it helps asking someone else what they think your strengths are to get you started :) we always seem to sell our own abilities short. Cvs are a chance to celebrate our successes...if only on paper. Your my inspiration elise. You've achieved so much! I'm happy to check over it for you :)
